RAF Kinloss - could we get a married quarter before our wedding?

If you want the MQ - there is no messing around - you HAVE to be married.
Don't live in the block... oh I remember the days of spending weekends in my hubbies tiny camp bed [shudders]. I knew a couple WITH A BABY who lived in the block for 2 months before they got their MQ - crazy!
Follow the advice, have a quiet registry marriage, you don't have to tell anyone, and if you're having a church wedding the vicar will use clever phrasing so no-one will notice (someone in the same position as you did this and their families never found out!)
Honestly, if you have not other alternative thats your best bet. I had to sacrifice my dream wedding so I could get it organised in 8 wks so I could move into our MQ. I wish we had just done the quiet registry - oh well
House shares are a good idea too. You can get a room on a 3 month contract in a house share for as little as £50 p/w.
Best of luck hun0 -

Thanks for the tip, though, it was worth a try.
Cheers Lottebear. I've been looking for rooms but the few I've found are out of our price range unfortunately. It's interesting that you weren't asked to produce a marriage certificate - is this standard practice, do you know? I'm now wondering if we'd be able to get away with saying we were already married, but I don't know what the repercussions would be and it's probably not worth the risk.
Thanks, TTBG, we're going to give this a try. My faith in RAF logic isn't exactly firm, but it's got to be worth a go.
Another good option - thanks for that. If we don't have any luck with a MQ and nothing cheap comes up locally that may be the way forward. It beats the tent, anyway! What would be the likely repercussions if we were found out, though? Don't worry, I won't tell anybody it was your idea if we're caught
Just out of interest, we were never asked to produce a marriage certificate either. Not advising anything with regards to your situation but I just thought i'd let you know!Mummy to 4, Grafter, Comper, Blogger

Get your OH to speak to DHE and find out if they have any quarters spare.
If so then he may be able to have a sensible discussion on 1 of 2 threads:
1.Can we have our quarter early telling them your situation etc with job. I did back in 1997 and bot my quarter 8 weeks early.
2.Speak to them on the basis of your other half applying for a supplus MQ and occupying it as a single person for x weeks transfering it to a MQ the day you get married.
If no spare married quarters then unfortunatly you may struggle to get it early as you have no entitlement.
Ultimatly, be nice to the DHE people and do not forget that they have no obligation to give you a quarter until 2 weeks before your wedding day. I have seen to many people loose their rag with DHE and get nothing out of them (put yourself in thier shoes) but generally if you are nice to them..........
Good luck.0 -
Hi I've just moved into the area after being posted to Kinloss and moved into our quarter a few weeks back. From what I can gather there aren't at lot of spare quarters about especially in Elgin which is where we are, however the housing guys in Scotland are so much better than those we had to deal with in England so if you speak to them direct you might get some good advice. When I applied for our old quarter before we got married I had to provide a letter from the vicar that was marrying us as proof and send that off with our application but not the wedding certificate. Your OH will need to provide a wedding certificate though to change his marital category to enable him to pay for your quarter. With regards to getting it early we got our first house 5 days before our wedding, I asked to get it two weeks before as I believed that was my entitlement but was informed in no uncertain terms that I was ELIGIBLE for the house two weeks before NOT entitled and if I didn't agree to their original date then we couldn't have our house until after our wedding! Hope this helps a little - good luck!0

Hi all, thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I didn't get the job afterall, as it turns out (gutted!!) but it'll all come in handy for when something does come up. While I'm on, does anybody know the locations of the Kinloss MQ patches? The Hive website says Muirton, Northside and Elgin - I've found Muirton on Googlearth but does anybody know any road names in the other patches that I can look up? Just curious to see where we might end up living. And can anybody offer any recommendations as to which area is best in case we get a choice? Thanks!! x0

RAF Kinloss has MQs at Muirton Place, Burnside, North Side (try 'Trenchard Crescent', or 'Salmond Street'), Bishopmill in Elgin (Try 'Lossiemouth Road'). I don't think there's any quarters left in the following places, but there used to be in Southside, Kinloss, and Pilmuir area of Forres.
