Car Insurance with Norwich Union & £20 M&S voucher offer issue.

I received an offer when my renewal for my cars was comming from NU. If i renewed within 14 days i would get £20 M&S vouchers per car.

Simple enough...so i called up thier call centre and asked them about the deal. I was told that the vouchers would come within 5 days with my new policy documents. So i renewed my insurance and again asked the question at which point i was told i would get it within 5 days.

The policy documents came but no vouchers. When i called up again i was told that i would not get the vouchers but infact get forms after 28 days of the start date of my insurance. I fill in these forms and than wait another 14 days to get my vouchers. So suddently 5 days becomes 56 days (14 days renew before the policy expires than 28 days and than 14 days again).

This was clearly silly so i asked for a copy of the phone call under the DPA which was given to me. The call recording clearly brought out the two instances when the call centre person told me it would arrive after 5 days. I complained about this, but three times over the phone i was fobbed off. I than complained via email but got nowhere and finally NU have simply asked me to go to the ombudsman.

While my complains where going on i decided to check if this was a one off or what is a selling tactic. So i called up as a potential customer 4 times over 1 week, only to be told the same thing, the vouchers will come in 5 days.

Again i told this to the NU Customer services rep, but again they refuse to acknowledge this is clearly not a mistake.

My question is: Has anybody else been sold policies like this by NU, because i just want to find out if this is a one off or is this a regular occurance.

Many thanks.

Have you been told by NU that you will get M&S £20 vouchers in less than the 56 days 1 vote

Not something I have came across, is this through Norwich Union or Norwich Union Direct that this deal is advertised?

That is a case of misleading information, if told 5 days for the actual vouchers you should have got them instead of an application form etc.

  • Re: Rishisah's quote made on 31-03-2009, 8:24 PM - We too have had the same thing happen - we renewed our Van Insurance with them and the only reason we went with them was because the £20 voucher made their quote overall cheaper than anyone else. We have contacted them several times but to no avail. Maybe we should all email Watchdog regarding this and see if they will do anything?

Search out a user on here called Beccus - she works for NU and will investigate this type of thing for you.
