Buying Blinds online

I want to buy a cream/beige blackout blind and have found a couple of places online that will make one to fit.

blindsuk.net and blinds-depot.co.uk

The first is coming up with a handful of bad reviews (I guess that they aren't the cheapest for nothing!) and the second has nothing about them anywhere.

Has anyone else used either of them or could you recommend some where else. Needless to say, my budget for this is next to nothing and the window is 196x90cm.

We used these http://www.247blinds.co.uk/ for pleated blinds and found them OK. From £51 or £56 for what you want depending which measurement is width and which is drop.

May I second the vote for 247 blinds (above).
I have had roller and vertical venitian blinds from them.
    Very satisfied with quality.

    Hi,

Another vote for 247 blinds .... used them for wooden blinds for office ... they can send free sample to look at if need be.

As an update, I used 247blinds and they arrived today. Cheap enough, fitted in and blackout as well as can be.

Will test it tonight come the kids bedtime and see if it blocks the new bright street light the council put in right outside their bedroom......

    OK here goes.
generally black out blinds are confused with black out 'fabric' made into roller blinds etc: The name black out means that the light does not come thru' the fabric therefore offering better shade than opaque fabrics.
A true black out blind that completly "BLACKS OUT" the light making the room DARK, is a different thing altogether. If you want more shade than average, then go ahead to the last paragraph. Otherwise read on:

Black out systems are rarely bought by Joe-Public due to the expense and the type of windows being covered. The fabric is part of a 4 sided cassette type frame that has side runners usually with brushes running up the the height to stop any light getting thru'. The fabric is normally stored in a cassette that is fixed flush to the outer edge of the rebate. Due to modern pvcu frames having protruding handles, these types of systems can not be fitted very close to the window. The bottom also has a brush sided rail that the blind fits into.
Double the price of an expensive custom made roller, and you will be close.
Otherwise: (Going back to blackout fabric)
Choose a fabric and then have it made at least 8-10" (250mm) wider than the window, and 8-10" above and below the window recess. (ie 10" each side). This will stop a lot more light getting passed the outer edges, and if you choose to fit the blind near to the glass........ it will NOT give you anywhere near 'Black Out'. Just slightly more shade.
Honest...... 12 years of fitting blinds and every time we sold a roller 'b/o) is was NEVER dark enough.

This blind is blackout (PVC backed thing) enough for what I need in the girls room - although I know it won't be pitch black in the room as I have fitted it recessed into the window and a small strip of light comes in the sides. I have curtains with "blackout" linings that were bought at a later date, but those linings are naff. With the 3 together I won't be woken at 5am (here's hoping!!)

Would have loved a proper system that tucks in at the edges, but as with all things it boils down to what I can afford.
