Ex Partner may lose job, advice please

Hi,not sure if posting this in the right place so feel free to move if appropriate.

My Ex partner has approached me tonight,he has been caught driving his girlfriends car with no insurance, which is going to take him to 12 points, which would result in him losing his licensce,he needs his licensce to work as he has a driving job. He currently pays me £150 a month via the CSA and £160 for a loan I (stupidly) took out for him when we were together. He is going to court on 15th of april and has asked for me to contact his lawyer to say that if he were to be banned from driving which would result in him losing his job then this would cause me and my daughter financial hardship. this is true, his lawyer has told him that the bench may be lenient to him due to the current economical clmiate.
Im really just wondering if anyone thinks that this is a possibility.
Any help/advice greatly appreciated:o

It may help but no insurance is considered a serious offence. 6-8 points plus a fine are the norm.

Worth a try though i guess.

Apart from the moral issue here (as a driver I would personally like fools like that off our roads - 12 points? clearly has no regard for himself or other drivers), who knows really.....I suppose it will depend on what his other points are for. If he has been caught like this before then I would imagine the courts would take a dim view of it.

I would certainly prepare yourself that you are potentially going to find yourself £310.00 short every month. This of course has to be the worst time ever to lose your job and try and get another one and as a disqualified driver it's going to make it extra hard. Am assuming that a criminal conviction will be applied as well and many employers take a dim view of it.

I would brace yourself and have a look at your budget - where on earth are you going to get £160 to pay the loan? Bearing in mind if you default then it's your credit file that will be shattered and you they will chase for the money.

Of course writing a letter can't do any harm but if it was me I wouldn't be holding my breath. If you get a swine of a judge he could point out how reckess your ex was being doing what he was doing and he is a Father....

    Thanks for replies.
His other points are for having his phone in his hand(not actaully answering it) and for driving with bald tyres(not his own van he was sent out with another employees on an urgent delivery).
I am unsure myself as to whether anything I say is going to make a difference to the inevitable.

It's worth a try but I think it's unlikely they will let him off this. Magistrates seem to be really harsh at the moment if our local paper is anything to go on.
    However nothing ventured nothing gained!
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

Well it can't do any harm now can it? Surely worth a try.:)

If you do though you better hope the judge doesn't read this site as a 2 week foreign holiday booked doesn't really scream financial hardship;) :D

I had my holiday booked before he announced this tonight,i have only paid a £140 deposit so far. I work hard to make my living but if I find myself £310 less a month off I will suffer financial hardship.
  • just a silly question... if his g/f had insurance and he is over 25 wud he not be covered 3rd party?

I am not sure,as a non driver i do not really understand insurance etc. He is over 25 and gf did have 3rd party when he was stopped
  • from looking on other websites it depends on the insurance, i know on my insurance (full comp) that other ppl will be covered 3rd party on my car as long as they have my permission.
