Equifax Credit Check Free Trial

Options
Just a quick 'thank you' to MSE.com and 'saynoto0870.com'.

I recently signed-up for the free trial with Equifax to check my credit file.

A word of warning... It's dead easy to sign-up to, but bloomin' hard to cancel! Cancellation instructions are hidden away on their FAQs page and requires you to call an 0870 number.

Fortunately, thanks to saynoto0870.com, they also have an 0800 number. It took 27 minutes for me to reach the top of their call queue - I'd have been really peeved had the call not been free.

Thanks Martin! :T

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/credit-rating-credit-score#check tells you how to cancel.it. Rather easily I would have thought.
  • Yeah... simple if you see that page - I didn't

For reference, I called 0800 656 9000 & they transferred me to the relevant dept.

After spending ages getting the 'we're busy' message and then being disconnected on the 0870 number, I tried another number and got straight through to get it cancelled.

Try 0800 0665 825. It even has the advantage of being free!

Thanks ever so much for the freephone number

Tried to cancel the subscription today and was holding forever and still failed to get through. Decided to write them requesting cancellation.

Even so, i'll be calling them 1st thing tomorrow :T.

    From their FAQ:

"If you want to cancel you can do so through this on-line system by going to the Ask a Question tab, picking your product and choosing the category 'I have a question about - Cancelling'."

    Has anyone tried this?

It's nearish my deadline for cancelling the free trial (had to string it out as they took ages to correct my queries) but I can't spend hours on the phone today. Also, is it 30 business days or 30 calendar days? My 30 calendar days would end on Tuesday, 30 business days would be well into July but I'll try the online cancellation now & phone on Monday to be sure.

Also, is there any way of barring payment to them from my debit card incase the cancellation does not go through in time?

I cancelled this way rather than phoning up, not a problem. I would assume it its 30 calendar days so you probably want to get it sorted asap. Mine was cancelled within 24 hours after making the request.

Cool, just submitted the request online, their customer support hours run to 5pm so it should be done by the end of Monday, I'll post back my progress.

Just had my trial cancelled, was very impressed with their service: I submitted an online request for cancellation thru their online help section as outlined in a previous post on Friday afternoon - it turned out that my 30 days were actually up on the Saturday & I recieved an automated email to this effect on Sunday, saying that my card would be charged for this. I then recieved the following message today (Monday) saying that the cancellation request had been processed & I would not be charged.

So, all in all, I wouldn't bother phoning to cancel - they seem to deal with this very efficiently online & I'd reccomend that everyone else at least tries this method first to save you waiting on the phone & that this should also prob be put in the main article as I think it only mentions cancellation by phone?

For reference, this is the msg I got in response:

    "Dear Michael

Thank you for getting in touch about canceling your trial.

Your Equifax credit report subscription has now been cancelled and the first charge refunded to you. Please allow approximately 5 working days for this to go back on your card.

You’ll find more information about your credit report at: www.equifax.co.uk/help. If you have a question, you should find the answer in our FAQ section. If not, you can send us an online query, and attach your documents to it - no need to worry about them getting lost or delayed in the post.

I hope you find this useful. If there’s anything else we can do for you, please let us know.

    Kind regards

    Equifax Customer Services"
