Anyone been to Canberra recently ?

Anyone been to Canberra recently ? Going to visit my boyfriends' parents who live a few hours from there and since I'm going to be in the neighbourhood (for Oz anyway) - I wondered if it was worth the stop ?

Any ideas on accommodation would be good aswell, we will be driving so need parking and the YHA only has dorm rooms :(

Thanks in advance

Went a couple of years back.
It was sort of on our way so we thought we'd stop by.
    Flew in and drove out.
It's a seat of Government and the city is geared towards that. The "New" Capital Building is OK for a look see as is the old one nearby.
Mostly business hotels that empty at the weekends-same for restaurants.

I looked on TA for places to stay and the cheaper ones had the more dodgy reviews  IIRC we stayed at the Waldorf Appartments. (didn't have a car so had to be central.)
Got the hotel from NeeditNow which is the OZ version of Laterooms. We got several good prices from them on our 4 week trip.

We stayed two nights (one whole day) which was enough. My OZ relatives were surprised we were going there and I wouldn't go back or tell anyone it's a must see.

If you can fit it in without too much hassle then it's possiby worth a days visit.

I appreciate your honesty, I think I will give it a miss. I don't like going to cities just for the sake of it, they're often overated.

We can visit somewhere else, I was just going to be 2 hours from it. My BF lives in Melbourne and we are visiting friends in Sydney, so that's enough cities for me :)

This feels like you've just broken my dream.
My colleagues were talking about this very thing yesterday... Two cities that you wouldn't bother visiting, and the top answers were Canberra and Brazilia. We've booked visits to both for our clients this week and the guys who have been all said that they wouldn't waste that air fare, but business is business.

  • The Aboriginal Embassy is worth a look if you are passing by.
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p

Ok... Canberra, as has been said above, is a Government city and there's precious little else there worth seeing.
