How to disable printer cartridge check?

I read an interesting post on how to make the most of a cartridge, but the post is only about a specific HP printer - Color Laserjet 4600dn.

http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Comp/comp.periphs.printers/2006-05/msg00681.html

I hope that's useful to some.

Would anybody have a solution to do the same operation - ie disabling the cartridge check for a HP Deskjet 5940 ?

(I'm not interested in anything about font or usual printing parameters variations)

Or is the dark electrical tape a good trick for all printers and cartridges ?

Thank you
