Getting a Bank Account on returning to the UK advise please

Ok can anyone advise me on how to go about opening a bank account on returning to the UK after living abroad for 10yrs I need one that I am able to tranfer some money to after the sale of a house , also does the taxman need to be informed as its my main residence,

It depends which country you lived in and what your tax staus was there. Many countries have the equivalent of CGT on main residences.

After ten years, you'll be pretty much starting from scratch in terms of credit. Pick any UK bank and apply, but I wouldn't say start with a basic bank account.

As for the taxman, my limited knowledge is that if you sell your main residence, you don't have to pay capital gains tax on it - but it might be worth either checking with Revenue & Customs or taking professional advice.

To barclays manager, i have to just returned to the uk after 8 years, If i go into a bank how can they open a normal current account when they will have no address history for me in the uk for the last 8 years?
