A very close friend of mine from school has just rejoined in this last week. He joined as a signaller age 17, and couldn't cope on civvie street.
His old mates are all off to Afghan soon and he realised he was jealous. This is despite him complaining no end and being a different person completely when he came back from his tour there.
I think some people are just meant for military life, and he is one of them. He earnt more as a civvie but it wasn't for him, he was bored stupid.

I can see the attraction completely. I am currently sending off my paperwork to join the TA as a doctor. Did ACF then OTC, and always toyed with the idea of joining as a regular but never really bit the bullet and did it.

Well you may change your mind once your in the TA (good back door route in)

I've been in since I was 16 so don't really know anything else (the downside) but I have never ever thought I've made a mistake....theres just to much fun to be had while serving.

And good luck in getting in....Sir;) or should I say Ma'am

After fully reading the report, it seems that all nurses have had pay rises of at least 8% plus further specialist pay which equates to a rise of either 14 - 20%.

So those that are kept in a nice, relatively secure base are given a stupendous pay rise but they couldn't give the squaddies who actually put their lives on the lines in combat get 2.8%.

I don't begrudge the nurses their rise but I feel in the present climate their manning shortfall will be made up a lot faster than they believe.

as far as i see it 10 years ago the army was a good place to put lads without much other hope otherwise pretty pointless. These days they are working on the borders of human endurance, seriously risking life and limb and i cant say i grudge them it.

Franlkly i still think a few acts of savage violence such as nuking afganistan would save more lifes in the long run but if we are going to send guys into a rock chucking contest the least we could do it spend somecash getting them the best rocks.

    But be warned

I have a very particular set of skills, skills that I have acquired over a very long career, skills that might be a nightmare for people like you!

How good are your skills of tracking down anonymous people on the internet?

Military nurses you mean, not NHS nurses.

They too are in combat zones. NHS staff got around 1.5% increase.

Sorry but NHS Nurses got 2.4%. And what NHS nurses do you know that are in combat zones? TA, RNR, RAAF? Get paid military wages on military contracts therefore they rae in the military. Agency nurses on MOD contracts? Get paid around £17000 for three months work (tax free as well).
