Nevertheless, they should still act within the OFT Debt Collection Guidelines. :)

we had a letter years ago from Eversheds..they wanted £3000 from the sale of husbands old house when he handed it back to bank. They contacted us 11yrs and 6mth after he handed it back, and they ahd 12 yrs to collect before being statute barred. .like idiots we responded,we should have waited it out for 6mths. They are solicitors, and they agreed to £1000 as we didnt have any money then..still dont now actually!

if they are after 7900,try offering 3000 ..thats if you can get that much though.

Totally agree rog2, another one who thinks threats & intimidation is the only way to treat a debtor.
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional

This often happens whe 'Debt Collection' is a service offered by solicitors - they appear to think that, somehow, the term 'solicitor' sets them apart from, and free from the obligations of, the run of the mill dca.

Perhaps it could be worth seeing what the Law Society has to say on this one?

    HI

Just bumping as I don't know what to advise.

If you are thinking of going on DMP have you contacted one of the debt charities - CCCS is highly thought of on this site. They may also be able to help you with this.

    Good luck
