Paid cash into small Natwest branch - still not showing up today?

Options
Hi all,

Yesterday I paid in £200 into a small Natwest branch. As the branch is a sub branch and does not have computer facilities, they gave me a paying in slip to fill in, and they said it will be processed overnight.

However, it is still not showing up today, last checked at 9.15am! Is this normal at all?

Thanks.

The problem could be how you checked your balance. I know their online and phone service updates around 2 - 230am but ATM's can vary.
I would think you have two options, wait until tomorrow as "overnight" could have missed your account update or contact your branch today.
I presume your branch is a main branch and would be able to check any pending payments / credits etc. Ideally visit your branch as it is hard to ignore someone when they stand in front of you!
I too bank with Natwest and would reccomend taking the paying in slip etc with. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted.

How the hell do they do anything without computers?

Takes me back to when we used to bundle all the work of the day and go back to main branch whereby it would be processed that day or the following day.

Encashments to trusted customers would be done on the nod anyone else would be phoned through to branch for earmarking - of course some had an old fashioned agreement to cash called an open credit - remember them?

Those were the days of real banking where leads were bits of wire you plugged into the kettle and sales targets had not been invented.

Oh and you could always tell those customers wanting to borrow money they used to come in in a shirt and tie!! Happy days.

Oh wow. Mech rooms. With the GIANT machines for processing the cheques. And local clearing... taking cheques to other branches. Doing unpaids. Standing order clerks.

Open credits from "away" branches, yeah - home branches got written up in their ledgers later on. And you had to learn how to recognize signatures at sight.

I was a loans officer. Every few months a young woman would come in wearing her lowest cut top, lean over the desk... could I have a teeny bit more on my overdraft please, sir?

    Ah, "loin lending."

@Barclays Manager, I worked in a large City Branch in a small upstairs office. Summer was Bingo time: Eyes down for a full house, and what about things like Large Town Clearing, Walks cheques, Waste or Remittances, Looking Back for errors to gone 7p,m?

Out of interest - when did all this change? And do banks not process cheques etc in the back of the branch anymore? If not, what IS is the back of the branch apart from a staff room and sales board?!

And to the OP - was the sub branch one based on a university campus by any chance? They are really old fashioned and use laptops to see your account details.
  • Hi all,

Had a look at it later today and yes it has shown up.

Yes the branch is based in a hospital campus! Usually I won't pay in money there, but as I'm busy and can't find time to go to a main branch I paid it in there! :)

    Open credit facilities still exist.
