I would like to buy my new SIL a DIY book for his birthday. Any suggestions /recommendations for a good basic book?

DIY know how with show how published by DK.

Corny title but I have managed to renovate my entire house using this book as a guide. There are lots of step by step photos not just text, and a clear explanation of all the tools and techniques used in DIY.

The jobs I have completed using this book as a guide are: building a stud wall, rewiring the whole house, fitting new doors, plastering, rendering, paving, turfing, replacing roof tiles and facia, plumbing, fitting a new bathroom, fitting a new kitchen...honestly the list is endless.

I went into this project with little experience, this book has been a great guide. If it’s not given me the exact knowledge, it's allowed me to ask the right questions on on-line forums where you can find examples of people who have experienced similar onsite problems as you for more specific guidance.

I bought last years readers digest DIY guide from WHSmiths a couple of weeks ago. It was reduced from £20/£25 to £5 as they bought out a new version. Well worth a fiver. Lots of good information and illustrations/pictures to aid with the work. Glad I bought it.
