Hi,
I am new to the forum, tho I have visited MSE plenty of times....
I have recently changed suppliers from British Gas Dual Fuel Metered billing, to Ebico (administared by Southern Energy) Pre Payment... as I'm on low income and don't want big bills all at once and/or the risk associated with Direct Debits hitting my account when I'm pennyless...
I'm very happy with Ebico so far and satisfied with the Value for money offered compared with other suppliers... However...
I was doing some maths (which i'm not great at!) and was trying to work out if it's worth paying a standard charge... (as Ebico dosent charge this, but has a slightly increased KwH rate, to 'balance' this.
OK here's what I looked at....
If I was to top-up&spend £7pw on electricity.... I would be using 52.2KwH @ the following rate (London Region)
Ebico 52.2units x 13.40KwH = £6.99
Now @ Southern Energy's Standard rate of 11.53 KwH + 0.91p Weekly Standing Charge (0.13p per day) it works out as follows...
52.2units x 11.53KwH = £6.01 + Standing Charge @0.91p = £6.92
Obviously not having a standard charge means, should I head away for holidays, I save etc... However In all the talk of Ebico's great rates, surely the £7per week threshold seems a plain to understand formula to work out what's the cheapest option... Especially when as a pre-payment customer you get used to remembering the weekly figure for your electric usage???
Can we not point to this formula in discussions?? Seems to make alot of sense
Your thoughts would be appreciated and if my maths is all wrong don't destroy me lol

Yes Tom, makes sense, with gas off in the summer, as with lots of users, quids in.
However, Ebico's amalgamated price is under threat. Ofgem, no doubt pushed by the Big 6, are calling for itemised costing.0 -
The EquiPower tariff in London is 13.398p/kWh, and Southern Electric's Prepayment Tariff is 13.556p/kWh, both with no standing charge.“Official Verified Account

The prices quoted by the Ebico representative are correct"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
I got these off Energy Helpline.“Official Verified Account
