Mr T has packs of 12 riverway pork and cumberland sausages half price...£2

Does anyone know if they are worth buying. I have had some pretty grim sausages in my time and don't know whether to trust the old fashioned packaging. lol.

  • yes , a couple of weeks ago I bought a whoopsie pack down to 80p

they cooked and tasted just like proper butchers sausages.

have bought more this week while they are on half price offer

they freeze well but do clump together so if you dont want the 12 split into portions before freezing

Yes we use these all the time, Hubby loves the pork and onion
We buy them in large packs from cosco.
Freeze well, but best to let them fully defrost before cooking.
Very meaty, not pappy like some you buy. Well worth the extra

yes these are quality, full of meat not fat, i only buy them when they are on special offer from tesco, i cook them in the oven on a bed of sliced up red onion & sliced mushrooms with a gulp of olive oil then i use the onions & mushrooms and juices to make a gravy with some stock & flour.

    I would disagree with that.

The pack says 68% pork, but the law says half of that pork can actually be fat and connective tissue. The pack also says it has 22% fat, and as fat is not listed as an ingredient, it must be "hidden" in the pork content.

I make that only 46% pork, and some of that could be connective tissue, but we will never know because they don't need to tell us.

Might as well post the ingredients list while I'm here.

British Pork (68%),Water ,Rusk ,Salt ,Wheat Flour ,Dextrose ,Yeast Extract ,Sodium Triphosphate ,Preservative (Sodium Metabisulphite) ,Spice Extracts and Herb Extracts (Capsicum, Sage, Coriander, Mace, Marjoram, Ginger, Nutmeg, Pepper) ,Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid) ,Rusk contains: Wheat Flour, Salt, Raising Agent (Ammonium Bicarbonate) ,Filled into natural pork casings

Well, from my experience rather then reading a pack they are full of meat, instead of fat (wherever that comes from).
As fat fries off and you end up with lots of it on your grill pan - with these you don't - I suppose that is why the person that said they are full of meat said that. Basically they don't shrink to half size once cooked.

Well worth it OP, we like them. Very tasty.

We are all entitled to our opinion, mine is......a sausage that only has, at most, 68% meat is not full of meat.

That'll be because the rusk and wheat flour soaks it up

We buy them from costcos and I think the chipolatas have a higher meat count from there. We bought 20 pkts reduced to 99p from costcos on new years eve!!! In fact our chest freezer is still full of xmas and new year bargins!!
  • Would like to thank the ppl for there positive comments but disagree with the negative comments especially when you don't know what your talking about! My family have been butchers for over 50 years and we know what cuts of meat are the best my great grandfather, my uncle and my cousin produce those sausages and the motto is quality quality quality so sod the "old packaging" as you say they are bringing you decent meat for a reasonable price If you don't like it don't buy it don't slag it off when ppl are making a living from it! Go and buy your tesco value sausages instead!!!!
  • Better than Richmond not as nice as Tesco Finest, but at £2 good value for money.
