Hi everyone,
Hopefully someone can help me. I want to basically put windows xp onto a disc with the drivers ect ect. My laptop is XP but I don't know how to get it off that and onto a disc. So I can reload it onto my main computer as setup won't work as it is on windows 98 and my old XP disc is scratched
Can anyone help?
Many thanks

Your XP licence will only cover installation on the laptop and not on a second machine.
Have you tried polishing out the XP CD scratch and running it again? I've never tried, it but I read somewhere that toothpaste can be used (mild abrasive)? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I don't think there's an easy way to do what you describe.
You can take an image of the Laptop's hard drive by using something like Ghost or one of the free alternatives like Clonezilla, but the components in the desktop PC will require different drivers than are in the image - so it may not boot, or if it does it may demand drivers that are on your scratched XP CD. It's possible you could get round that by downloading drivers from the desktop PC manufacturer, though.
TBH - assuming you have a spare valid licence key for XP - you'd be better off borrowing an XP install CD from a friend and using that.0 -
Thankyou I will try that then

...and if you DO manage to borrow one, make sure it's the same version as your installed one, i.e. Home, Media Centre Edition, etc...and COPY THE DISK FOR YOU BACKUP PURPOSES......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
the drivers thing wont work, drivers help identify the software in side the pc, The op wants to take off xp laptop drivers and use em on a desktop , this will be like useing vauxhall spark pulgs in a ford0
