Changes to Lease

Options
Hi there,
I don't know if this is the right place to write this but I have a question regarding changing my lease.

I have been renting a house for two year on my own. I am getting married at the beginning of May and wanted to 'officially' have my wife move in.

I informed the letting agency of this, assuming that, with it being a marriage that it would just be a case of getting written permission. Instead I have been informed that she has to be added to the lease in full

Now... The problem occurs as she is a mature student, thus not currently in full time employment. The letting agency want a full credit check etc to prove she's capable of paying, yet, I am already fully checked and proved credit worthy to cover the house I covered for the last two years!!

Is this a normal situation? How does the general couple get around this, say, if they were expecting a child and one of the parents was not working? Is there an alternative approach I can take or do I have to say 'stuff it' and find ourselves a new place to live???

On both occasions they just ran a basic credit check on me at a cost of about 30 pounds. As his earnings were enough they did the full checks on him only - not a chance I was paying for the privilege of being fully vetted with no need.

It's not that important that you need to spend money on it - surely?
