When she goes for an interview as a teacher it will be her who is being assessed, not the type of university that she went to.
I go to an ex-poly that is more than reputable.
I would recommend that she visit the universities that she is interested in, the course might be considered the best of its kind but that doesn’t matter if it’s not the best for her and she isn't happy.
Ps.I study English Language and love it
I'm glad that you're happy in your studies but to assume that all universities are the same and that your choice of institution won't affect your future career is naive in the extreme.0 -
^^ but that does depend on the subject....0

but surely the class of your degree is more important than the place you attained it? If I came out with rubbish degree from Oxbridge would I still be considered over a 1st from a newer institution?
I'm aware prejudice occurs I'm just saying today I don't agree with it and that other factors should be considered0 -
Yes although very true. However if I wanted to do something like English I reckon a 2:1 from Oxford would be better than a 1st from Met. But as you say, a 2:2 or 3rd at Oxford compared to a 1st a Manchester say, could be a better view.
But saying that you should always look at the uni, I think if I went to Brimingham or another city campus I wouldn't be on the road to getting a high 2:1 in my degree, which is what I am on at the moment.0 -

Absolutely! A first from the University of the Middle of Nowhere will always carry less weight than a lower class degree from a more prestigious university unless you're talking about only getting a third.0 -
Hi
My eldest got 3 A's and a B at A level and wanted to follow the same course as yours She was offered places at York, Warwick, Durham, UEA and Aberystwyth. Where did she go to study English - yes Aberystwyth! She visited all the uni's and Aber was the one she felt the most comfortable at. It's all down to personal preference really. She then went on and took her pgce at Roehampton and is now a very happy early years teacher.
My answer - go with your gut feeling it doesn't usually let you down.

Yes its actually one of the questions in my interview for my place, why did you choose Staffordshire University. I explained, I know its not the best university but its the university I felt most comfortable with, I found the resources there of a lot higher quality than at X Y and Z and I feel I have learnt more here than I would have at say elsewhere. I got the placement there so I must have said something right (or the £10 I slipped him obviously worked )0

But Aberystwyth is a well respected traditional university so was a perfectly reasonable choice, based on personal preferences. If she'd chosen to go to somewhere like Bolton (apologies to anyone who went here, it's only an example!) then this could have been a rather foolish decision.0
