Tumble Dryer useage does not seem that bad

Options
Took the plunge before christmas and bought our first tumble dryer.
Everyone was telling us that Electricity useage would rocket, we use it twice maybe three times a week.
However 4 months on and our electricity useage is still at the same level as last year, we have changed to energy saving bulbs so this probably offsets some of the increase from the tumble.
So last weekend in a non technical way I watched the meter whilst the tumble run for 60mins drying 5kg of bedding.

The meter moved 1.5Kwh (This included whatever other electrical items were on at the same time).
So we are looking at approx 20p per load, which seems very good value for money considering the amount of items dried and far less than some of the figures banded about on here by others.

There are lots of variables, age of tumble, energy rating, how wet the items are etc etc.

Our Tumble dryer is 3 months old 7Kg Bosch B rated condenser with those sensors inside that stop the dryer when the humidity levels drop below a set figure.

Ours is about 20p an hour but I wash for six - all of us wearing adult sized clothes. Could easily use for 10-15 hours a week which would be £2-3 or £25-40 a quarter. Whereas, a bit of creative hanging over the airer cuts it down to about an hour a week or £2.50 a quarter.
  • what about outside on your line for drying?? to save money when the weather is good

I like my tumble dryer, brilliant when you have kids. Though it only gets used when the weather is poor and enough washing to warrant it.

I prefer my clothes dried on the line.

20p per load is not a lot. But since your daily electricity bill sans drier will be only 24p or 36p then it can be a significant addition. You are right that they are inexpensive - but so are most other contributors.
