Hello, I administer our local sports team website. Its a community club and non-profit organisation. I was wondering whether there are any ways of raising money through the site? Has anybody any ideas?

You can have links on your website to other websites eg Amazon, Google or Betting Websites. They will pay you a percentage of the amount the person spends on their website after they have clicked through.0

Those adsense ads do not raise enough funds unless you have loads of traffic being sent to them. The most important thing a website should have is lots of content relevant to its audience, take this site for example. People love fresh content.
It really depends on how much time you have to set things up.
I dont know what the website looks like but i guess i would monetize as the second post suggests just as something to do. what sports does the team do? maybe there is a way of tying this in with making money. I'm starting a blog to supplement my writing for a sports paper, eventually i hope to make money through paid ads and other methods.
The point is there are only three ways to make money from a website:
sell something on it
rent the space on it for paid ads (like a newspaper)
monetise it with adsense, amazon, etc
i forgot the 4th - flip the site0 -
add a paypal donate button to your website0

The paypal button is a good idea, however it really depends on who you wish to do the donating. I reckon if its a community site then it'll be local people that are familiar with the team. Surely they don't need a PP button to donate? But it's still an idea to add it, wont do any harm.
I like the PP button idea only if there is something of value on the site for people to feel like they should donate. It comes down to content again, people wanting to view the site. The more visitors the more scope for making money.
Try and video their matches and put highlights in the site, if it's a youth team the parents would love that, and the kids would have something to show their mates online.

have a look at contact the moderators of a football forum i oftern view- www.northstandchat.biz. they have various referral ads, mainly for the local area?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
Another thing to do is perhaps start a wordpress blog, facebook and myspace page and link all three together i.e. blog - website - myspace - facebook, you can draw visitors to your website this way. Let us know how you are getting on.0

I agree with freeoffers, there are a million and one affilliate and referral schemes but for smallish sites they generate very little money every year. It may be better to create a clean almost ad free site and let the content stand out and attract people to your club. By all means advertise your main sponsors - their ads will stand out a lot better and be of more value to them if they aren't surrounded by loads of low value adverts and affiliate links.0

Spot on paulwf. The very thing that might go against a community site (its smallness) can also be its strength.
In my experience people rarely click on adwoards ads anyway so why bother clog up your site with them?0
