suicide is always a mental health issue

Yes,because only someone who was mentally ill would want to stop their own suffering?

Are you saying that if I have a headache and take a paracetamol to end the suffering,I'm mentally ill?

    Euthanasia/assisted suicide/suicide is basically taking a paracetamol,on a bigger scale.

I find it unbelievable that so few people 8% to be exact find it completely morally wrong to assist in ending a life.
What has happened to this society. We throw away so much in our bins....everything has become disposable when a newer or more advanced model has been invented. We are now considering disposing of human beings because they cant do what they used to do! Human life is sacred...no matter what! Only God can decide when life should end. Yes I am a Christian...and I know Jews Muslims and other world faiths believe the same. Has life just become one financial calculation!!!! We come into this world with no money and we leave unable to take any with us. There are so many wastes of revenue by the Government .... I say the fact that it costs billions to facilitate a military presence in Iraq up to now and onto Afghanistan and Pakistan next!!! The state treats soldiers as disposable so why not the old and the sick. So lets find a way to save some money ... kill the old and the vulnerable due to sickness and WE save millions to kill even more people in other countries and lose our own souls. God Bless

Wow,yeah...see,you're not really qualified to make comments here, because your people think that some gigantic, hairy bloke magicked us up out of thin air. Never mind the fact that he was quite willing to let his own son pop his clogs for other peoples imaginary sins...but,that's another matter...

And to the people commenting saying how fan-dabby-dosey palliative care is - how many of you have actually seen it in action?
And,even if you have, how many of you have had to actually look after the day to day needs of someone in palliative care?

I have, and to be quite honest - I'd much rather the option was open for me to NOT have to live out my last days, weeks, months or years covered in my own sh*t and pi*s,bedsores, drooling on myself, unable to eat anything with any flavour or texture, not being able to hold a conversation, have a w*nk,go for a !!!! myself without nurses watching/clearing up after? Where I'm unable to so much as tell someone how much pain I'm in? Where, quite frankly,I could be raped or beaten up or abused without anyone knowing or me being able to tell them?

Yes,palliative care is such a right old laugh! We should all have it.
Infact,I'm going to start shi*tting myself just now,and getting my boyfriend to spoon feed me mushed up,luke-warm potatoes and gravy - because, why not? If it's such a great way to live,I might as well start now, since it wont be diminishing my quality of life atall?

yes i think it should be allowed .... and while it would be difficult to regulate and make sure patients weren't being 'persuaded' into it ... i think it cruel and wrong to make a person continue to live when they dont wish to.
What gives another person the right to keep "me" alive if i chose not to?
i have nursed people who where like vegetables, with no quality of life what so ever, very old, terminally ill, in pain, incontinant, covered in bed sores, couldnt feed themselves, one lady who was like this used to have tears rolling down her face and a haunting sad look in her eyes but couldnt even speak, and it terrifies me that i could end up like that myself one day, no thanks!
let me go when i choose ... its MY life!
