Your thoughts?

Well it's about time I got around to upgrading my machine. The boys gaming computer put's mine to shame, and I've finally persuaded Mrs Mundi that it's crucial I build one soon before mine conks out.

I reckon for around £800 I could put together a machine that will cover all my needs (lot of intensive software) and cover me for a few years yet.

I've started to make a list of what I fancy. Any views?

MOBO..... Gigabyte GA-8KN Pro SLI
CPU..... AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (San Diego 1MB L2 cache)
HDD.... 250GB Western Digital caviar SE16 SATA2
PSU.... Tagan TG480-U22
RAM.... 1GB Corsair ecc reg 3200 DDR

This lot comes to around the £450 mark. I'm still looking at graphics cards, cases, and CD/DVD RW etc.

Thats a pretty good price so far, you can pick up a case and cd/dvd rw fairly cheap.

I use this http://www.shopgenie.co.uk/ to get the prices at the lowest possible.

The prices for all of these components came from one site https://www.microdirect.co.uk I've already got an account there and have used them countless times in the past (never had a problem yet).

I normally use Froogle to compare prices myself.

I tend to mainly use sites, like ebuyer and novatech for my parts but I'll check out that site thanks.

    Hmmm

LG GSA-4167 burner, it's around £30 on md. Is a good choice.

Not sure about the case. I really like the Antec P180. It's about £90 though, but kind of conforms to the BTX case format (with the psu in the bottom). It's also built to be silent. Gets great reviews, just google it.

Or you could ditch the Tagan, and get the Antec Sonata II which comes with a decent 450W psu.

Or the Akasa Eclipse-62 but that also is about £85.

Graphics card, depends how much gaming you want to do. A GeForce 6600GT is still very good bang for you buck.
