Hi cindyhove
I needed to use the Windows XP CD to do the process I described. I hadn't ordered this disk when I ordered the computer, so made the one backup copy you are allowed to make ... there's a shortcut on one of the startup menus, the "Dell" one I think ... click on this, with a blank disk in the CD-ROM drive ready. It's very straightforward ... just follow the instructions, then you'll have a Windows XP backup CD.
You need this XP disk in the CD-ROM drive when you restart the computer, as I did at the beginning of the process I described, the process that will format your computer to how it was when it arrived. None of the trial/demo programs will be on your machine e.g. AOL, Tiscali, Corel, Paintshop Pro etc after doing the process I described. You can then get drivers etc off the Dell site by typing in your TAG and then being taken to the relevant download section.
I've since asked Dell for the original Windows XP disk and resourceCD, and the pack's due on Wednesday, so it might be worth you contacting them. At first they very quickly sent out a pack, but it was for the wrong system, so it's been a couple of weeks arranging getting the right pack. Remind them what computer you have when you contact them.
I was very nervous incase there were problems after restoring the computer, as it was the first time I'd done it and I had no resourceCD, but all's well and the drivers that would be on the resourceCD are all on the Dell site, apart from Sonic, but that's not an essential program.

when restoring a PC does this remove all trace of it's previous activity? I'm thinking of when you buy a second hand PC and want to wipe it first.
Also I have a PC running on Win98, I still have the original recovery CDs. Could I run these on another PC?
cheersBefore you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.0 -

It does wipe everything unless an uber geek really wants to find stuff they can but I wouldnt really worry about that.. as you have to be a real sad basket to go hunting an old PC for someones info..
And if you have all the Win98 stuff yes you can use it on another PC.
I mean should you "Mmmm tricky that one" can you well yes and Win98
is so kinda forgot about I would as well its your own CDs0
