Long Haul Exit Seats

I do sympathise with you too as booking your seats online you were certain you had your seats to turn up and be told they were not reserved with you.
However you say there was only 4 seats left therfore you was one of the last passengers to check in.
Im sure that if you checked in earlier and extra leg room seats were avaiable they would have gave you it.
Thing to remember is check in get given certain parts of the aircraft/rows they have to put passengers in for the weight and balance of the aircraft and towards the end of check in may have placed passengers in these seats for this purpose ( not just for 'free')
Also on certain parts of the aircraft where crew are not seated some airlines require at least e.g 4 passengers per exit row so this is a possiblity- although the passenger thinks your doing them a favour there actually doing the crew/airline a favour.
Once passengers were given these seats they wouldnt not have been able to change there seats for you unless for safety related reason- it doesnt look professional otherwise however you are free to ask the passenger to swap seats etc.
In future i would still prebook seats online however still check in early for flight incase same problem happens again if so check in may be able to get you a better seat next time.New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.

I didn't know that. When I went with Virgin we had our booked seats.
I have also found if you pay for food then your seats are pre-allocated so you dont have to pay to sit together as well.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

on most of my flights with Virgin I have gotten the seat I requested, as I usually do the online check-in as soon as it opens 24 hrs before the flight.
But several times where I havent been able to use the online check in, I was given a different seat0 -

Last time we went with them we couldn't check in online and arrived pretty late at the airport as the coach we were on broke down for 2 hours. I think our flight was about 11am and we arrived at with minutes to spare before check in closed. Coming back was okay as flight empty and we checked in earlier in the day and left airport so we were bag free.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I had one of the back 3 rows "2" seats on a 747 for about 8 months. I checked in 23hours and 45 minutes before the flight and in that 15 minutes had been taken by someone else. I wrote to Virgin to complain but heard nothing (constructive) back.0 -

Virgin now charge extra for those particular seats unfortunately, thats why they were taken off you. It was nothing to do with the online check in. Those seats were great, its a shame Virgin caught on and decided to charge:rolleyes::starmod:C'est la vie:starmod:0 -
I get the same problem too. 5'10" and my legs bump uncomfortably against the seat in front. But I suppose thats what you get for flying budget airlines!0
