Excuse for not going to a wedding

Hi all,
I guess most of you are on here because you are already or are getting married, so I would like your advice...
My partner's brother is getting married this summer and my partner and I don't want to go! My partner and his brother don't get on very well at all!
It involves a 2 night stay in a hotel and is about an hour away from where we live.
We are both very busy and have had to change what we are doing now (i.e. delaying or bringing forward experimental work) to make sure that we are free for these few days.
It is a real pain in the bum having to go to this thing and we are both dreading it.
As married or soon to be married people, what excuses would you accept as to why your brother and his partner could not attend your wedding?
Thanks

The few people who've declined our invitations have just said that they regret they are unable to attend and have left it at that. No lengthy explanations.
And that's fine. It just means that we're able to invite other people who we couldn't afford to pay for originally.
I'm sure your BIL won't mind as long as he knows well in advance (He may be a little relieved too if he and your OH don't get on - he might have felt he was forced into it. I don't say that to be horrible, so please don't take offence - I'm just thinking of the family politics of wedding planning which are so difficult to cope with!
If you don't want to go, then don't, hun - maybe just send them a nice card wishing them all the best?

I'd go with the above.
the only other option I can think of involves a web of lies, decent, and, ultimately, murder.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
But my partner's parents will want an excuse!
WE are fed up with the politics of this wedding, so I hate to think how his brother and his partner feel!!'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. if its only an hour from your home why a two night hotel stay why not just attend the service and say due to unforeseen circumstances you can't stay any longer0

This is a good idea. However, by this time we will have booked the hotel room so we will lose money by not staying there!
Also, the issue of my partner's parents wanting an excuse is not circumvented!!'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. I dread attending weddings (My own excepted).
Much rather go to a funeral than a wedding.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

Sooooo true!! At least you don't have to look pleased at a funeral.
And you don't have to pretend that it is the only event of its nature that you have ever been to and that everything (from the flowers to the napkins) is absolutely beautiful!!
And I have stuff to wear for funerals!'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. That's how British I am' Constantine-Simms. :T

You could always pretend you're going and then at the last minute, pretend you have dysentry?
Perhaps not.....0 -
why not just tell them you won't be staying for the whole weekend. As stated it's only an hours drive away, just tell them you will be at the service, which saves face with the family, and drive home afterwards, blaming work commitments?4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
