Co-op Cashminder account problem

Hi
I was made bankrupt in 2005 and discharged in May 2006. I currently have a nationwide account which I wanted to move to them because they offer an electron card. I have recently found out that there are 9 default notices on my credit file which is incorrect and I am in the process of getting these resolved.
But the person at co-op told me my application was accepted and no credit checking takes place, they do an identity check and I am on the electoral role and they said I would not even need to verify identity.
Today I phoned to see why I had not even had some sort of confirmation in the post and I was told the application was declined. I then said that I was told it had been accepted so how could they then say it was declined? She said it was due to credit check, I said I was told there was no credit check so I was told and she just said sorry there is nothing she can do.
Surely this is wrong? It is advertised as a bankruptcy friendly account? Also doesnt the government leglislation permit people to have a current account for day to day banking? I was not asking for any credit facilities.
At the end of the call on the original application, I said I have £5,500 savings (Yearly Income)with nationwide I would like to also move to them, but that account was declined - a savings account??!! So do you think that could have then made the cashminder account decline?
Is there anything else I can get done about this such as appealing? I was very truthful and told him all about my BR and about the 9 ourstanding incorrect default notices too and I have not even had so much as a letter from them to inform me what is happening. Normally I would not bother if I get treated like that but I would prefer to have the option of a visa electron instead of using my partners card all the time.
Cheers

Did you ask for the cashminder account when you rang the co-op?
on your credit files you mentioned ccj's....any CIFAS (fraud) markers? We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Hi I believe Barclays will now give you the option to have an electron card so they could be worth a try but you have to apply in branch I believe.
You could try a complaint/appeal about the fact you were told it was not credit checked but I am not sure that it would make a lot of difference am afraid.
and like phil says was it the cashminder?

Fraud?
Yep asked for cashminder and I explained it all to him, he was really friendly and said not to worry there is no credit check, just identity check. I have my credit file and the only thing wrong is 9 default notices showing incorrect dates and still showing outstanding balance (which should show as settled) which I explained to him I am in the middle of writing to them too. One of them was a smile (I think that is co-op) credit card, so could that be to do with it?
I applied online with barclays ages ago but did not even have a letter from them from it...

Hi,
Dont know if this is any help but I have just had problems opening a Cashminder account with the Co op only because my address on the Royal Mail Website didnt agree with the address I mostly use for bills etc.
I got the post office to amend their site and managed to find suitable evidence to match this and have now been told my application has been successful.
Ring them and ask them what they want from you, I did and found them very helpful
Good luck0 -
These are the incorrect entries on my file with experian. Everything else is up to date and correct apart from my IVA which still says settlement date of 2010 instead of 2006.
I have just noticed there are two co-op entries. This will be a smile current account and a smile visa cc, do you think that is probably what it is some kind of internal check? The BR was on 20th June 2005 so most of the dates are within a month or so, but some still say current balance which is not correct. I have got to write to them and get this corrected I think.
I do not expect (or ever want) any form of credit, just somewhere to put money and a basic debit card I do not see what sort of risk that is to the bank considering the amount of money I would be paying in too. If not Ill just stick with nationwide and the cash card but there must be some kind of appeal process? Anyone had this happened to them?

How do you mean? My address is on royal mail website and always has been when for example applying for things or when opening a utility account. MY address now is different to what it was when I was made bankrupt as I was living with my parents back then.
I might ring them back to find out more info about it because she didnt tell me much to be honest.0 -

At one point co-op accepted you for a cashminder regardless of whether you owed them or not.We have seen a few declined recently who have owed co-op, so i would bet that is the reason now.DxFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

I owed them about 900 on credit card and still got accepted, i would have cleared it using my other card but didn't have anything available.
Have you not had a bank account since you declare bankrupt except this nationwide thing, the assistant (nationwide) pretty much told me that you cant get the normal account due to ccj's and the savings account isn't too good as no direct debit feature but i took it anyway incase the co op ap failed.0 -

Sorry to say, but this is why you have been declined, co-op don't like to give an account to anyone who owed them money when they went BRAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I have a nationwide current account which is just a basic cash card account, yet on my credit file it says I have an "current balance" with another account with them, so If I can get an account with nationwide and I have used it fine since 2005 with never having a dd bounce and always at least £100 in the account, I dont get what is going on with the co-op because they first said it was accepted and gave me a reference number.
The only reason I have applied is because I have tried several times to upgrade my current account with nationwide but being declined each time. I thought it was due to my BR but only last month I thought to get a copy of the credit file and saw these 9 incorrect entries and they said that would have a big part to play in my credit score, once they are resolved my score would go up. They said they do not use internal scoring like for example the hsbc do. If the computer says no then there is nothing they can do, unlike I know MBNA and HSBC have reviewed things in the past and use real people to judge things.
If I didnt call to chase co-op id never have found out, I assumed it all went through and there was a delay in getting the card. But ringing them earlier I was asked lots of questions which lead me to think maybe it was another application but maybe not, she just said it was declined and could not offer a reason why.
I was upfront and honest with them about the situation and was told by the guy last week it would be identity checked and not credit checked. So I am thinking now they have seen that there is a "current" balance I owe them which is incorrect, despite me telling them about all these incorrect things. I dont get all this because it is not as if I want any credit either. I do not want or need a credit card or overdraft.
Do you think I should call and get it looked into more, or go into a branch?
With regards to barclays it says on their website cash card account, and it says a connect card, what is that?0
