I've booked a Travelodge for a night in Birmingham. I know Birmingham quite well as I was a student there, but very little idea about restaurants. My boyfriend loves Greek food. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Not sure if you want city centre or not, this is outside of Birmingham, but still very nice http://www.zorbas.co.uk/

Bank restaurant on Brindley Place is lovely. Ithihaas restaurant on Fleet Street is also a great restaurant. If I were chosing out of these two I would go for Bank as it is in a nicer location and you can take a stroll along the canals or just hang out in one of the nice bars around Brindley Place.
However, neither of these is Greek!!
If you are set on going to a Greek one, don't go to Athens on Paradise Circus!
The food here is nice enough but they tend to cater for large, drunk work or 'stag/hen' parties and it isn't really the sort of place for a couple to dine!
I'm sorry that I can't recommend any nice Greek places, I haven't lived in Birmingham for about 3 years!
*The Mailbox often advertise themselves as having loads of great restaurants, but in fact Red Peppers is the only one in there that I would recommend (I definately wouldn't recomment Sante Fe). I just wanted to warn you incase you wandered down there on the promise of some great food and found the place lacking!!'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. That's how British I am' Constantine-Simms. :T

Do you know I was only thinking of this post yesterday as I was wizzing past Athens yesterday, thinking thats the only Greek place I know in the centre and I wouldn't want you to go there.
Chez Jules in the centre is nice. French thou, but have a good set menu.

Zorbas is okay but its in Acocks Green which is in the suburbs 5 miles out. Not worth in just to go for a meal.
I went to the food of college for a meal, top notch grub and the wines nice too, not to expensive. They do get booked up but you could walk there and have a lovely meal.

Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!

It's well worth checking the Birmingham Plus website, as mentioned by notakid. The reviews tend to keep up with the varying fortunes of restaurants. I'd also say avoid avoid for Athens, unless you want to be in the middle of hen and stag parties. If you decide to go to Zorba's, I'd suggest you get the bus (37 from Corporation Street) rather than the train; it's a fair hike from the station.0
