never been billed for Electricity
Hi just thought id pop in to see what everyones thoughts are on my situation.Ii have owned a flat for 6 years which was only 6 months old when I bought it. I didnt get any bills for the first few months but then started getting the usual bills to the occupier please give us your details etc. so I have gas, council tax, tv licenes etc all setup. however I never got a bill for electricity. so I left it a few months thinking somone will come knocking or ill get a general letter in the post asking for payment details. this never arrived. so while on the phone to my gas supplier for another matter I enquired wheather they were my supplier. They said right away that they were not my supplier but she could check the database to find out who was. I thought great only to be told I do not exist (this happened when the gas people wanted to get somone out to meter read too as they couldnt find me via address). I was then asked if i knew my plot number (which i did) this also didnt return any results. it got to the stage where I was asked what the numbers were of my neighbours. I gave them a range of 20 numbers all returning without a hit. are we all not paying ?
I have since tried to contact my gas supplier (about 2 years ago) and the same result. so i have been putting a bit of cash aside for the day I get cut off / found out. however I havent been pushing the matter due to the rules of billing ( responsibility of the supplier to give regular bills) etc with the 12 month back pay etc limit impossed in june 2007 for scotland (happy days)
also I dont think I have a meter number which would mean I can never be billed for it as they are not allowed to enter without my permission to put one on (i remember reading its a catch 22 for them) i.e it should have been done when the building was built but they cant do it without me giving permission and I dont have to give them permission correct me if i m wrong.
so whats your thoughts. should I enjoy it while it lasts or should I try sort it out now some how?

id enjoy it while it lasts.
when discovered, its easy enough for them to get legal permission to access the property to install a meter.
your benefit at the moment is they dont recognise your house as a property.
id certainly claim that in the event of a meter being installed, you are only liable for units after that date.
but you are using electricity, so i wonder where it is coming from? some poor sucker must be paying for the whole street!Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000

Same thing happened to me a while ago, I moved into a new house and the developer mucked things up so I didn't get a gas bill for 5 years. Had to pay when I left though. We came to an agreement! New house, moved in Jul 2005 no gas bill. Thet caught up with us on saturday. I understand that as long as you have not been trying to avoid them on purpose, they can only charge for 1 year. good luck0

yeah they can post me letters any time they like or come to my door. im not hiding. iv just given up on trying to track down my supplier. 12 months of bills is earning me no interest in my offset
do they just divied the total number of units used by the number of years i havent been billed to get the total amount due for 12 months?0 -
As long as you are keeping the money and another idea is to still take regular meter readings you will be ok.0

You must keep a full record of what steps you have taken to find/ contact your supplier. Dates and times of calls, copies of letters and recorded delivery slips, names of contacts.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
