Assured Shorthold Tenancy Termination

Options
I wish to leave my rented property. The tenancy began on the 21st of the month 2 years ago. Do we have to give one month's written notice by 20th May, stating that we are moving out on 20th June??

Assuming that the rent period begins on the 21st of the month and assuming you are now on a statutory periodic tenancy - then yes. But check the rent period in the agreement.

Send the letter to the LL 3 or 4 days before 20th May - he needs to receive it no later than 20 May.

The tenancy began with a term of six months, and we have been paying monthly since then. Our agreement has not changed since we started. Would the terms of our tenancy have automatically changed without written notification?

I wouldn't have thought so - why do you think they might have changed?

No it shouldn't have changed. So I should write to the landlord say six weeks before we want to leave? That should be sensible?

(As I'm sure you are planning to...) write whatever letter to whomsoever recorded-signed-for

    & keep a copy..

That way you'll be able to produce proof that the letter was received on whatever date.

    Cheers & Good luck!

Thanks to you both. I have a not very nice landlord, so need to do things by the book:rolleyes:
