BT Bill just arrived from September 2007!!

Hi,

I moved into my current property in August 2007. Needed a landline so happily went with BT.

In late Sepetmber 2007 changed everything to Tiscali (line rental, broadband phone calls etc). Everything has been fine until today!!!!

I've just received a BIll from BT for £127.34 - As I didn't have a clue what it was for (seeing that I hadn't used BT for 18months) I gave them a call and they explained that "because of a technical error" my bill was sent late!! yea, almost 2 years late!!!!!

Do I have to pay this Bill?
The Bill includes a £70 cancellation charge & a £7.50 late payment charge!!! Now, the late payment charge is a joke!! and because the bill was 18months late I never had the chance to possibly cancel the transfer to tiscali and save myself £70. I certainly don't remember BT telling me about this £70 charge when I made the switch!!

What can I do?

Thanks for any help.

Regards,
Ben

If you were not out of contract with BT when you cancelled (which presumably you weren't, as you had only been with them a month), then they're entitled to bill you for the balance owing on the contract. That would be 11 months or 17 months depending on the contract.
It's obviously absurd that it's taken them 18 months to bill the termination charge, but that doesn't make it invalid. You're the one who has benefited as you've had 18 months free credit on it.
You should certainly dispute the late payment charge though.

    Hi Ben!

That sounds odd, I'll check this out for you. Can you reply to the PM I sent you?
