Hi Katharine,
I guess it depends on how your website is built and how comfortable you are in editing it. You can build your own online donations system but it can be a bit of a pain and may well not be worth it if your site doesn't get many visitors.
The Charities Aid Foundation can take online donations on your behalf and you can just have a link on your website pointing people to the appropriate page.
The other 'non-technical' route is to use widgets. You can get people to sponsor the team via JustGiving for example and their website can give you a bit of code you can copy and paste straight into your own. Similarly you could sign up with MissionFish and get people to donate some of their ebay sales proceeds to you. Again, ebay make a widget you can put straight on your site. You can also set up your own ebay store and auction signed kit/memorabilia etc.
Now that Facebook has had a redesign I'd also suggest creating a 'Page' for your club if you haven't already. It's an easy way to communicate with your members/supporters and there's lots of fundraising/donations applications yuo can easily add to your page.

Hi Katherine
Have a look at the 'Buy At' website who offer free webshops for Charities and groups.
Their website says:
'An online fundraising webshop is completely FREE to set up and run. Your members and supporters get great value and exclusive discounts and can help you raise funds without any effort. Your group can receive up to 12% of the cost of each purchase made via your webshop. Webshops are ideal for school fundraising, fundraising for charities, or for your local sports team.'
I have been running one of these sites for my children's school for a couple of years. It is very straightforward, low maintenance and seems to bring in a small but steady stream of income.
Best wishes

Another shout out for 'But at' I have created several of these free webshops and they work well.
Also look at Affiliate Window Shopwindow.
