Dla

Hi i just want some advice really, My daughter 4yrs old has recieved DLA for the past 3 years, i have sent her renewal in and had a letter back saying they are requesting a report from her GP. Why is this. She has a very complex heart condition, liver condition, surely this cannot be doubted?
Is this a common process?
Ant advice would be greatfully recieved

  • My DS gets DLA and they wrote to his consultant prior to the award. I don't think that they doubt you, they are just checking that the care/mobility needs are still the same. As they could have worsened or improved over the past 3 years.
I think it is quite common for them to request further information, from the relevant people, so try not to worry about it.

I recently renewed by DLA and they asked for a report from my GP. Just par for the course really.
  • Hello Rachel,

A factual report from a GP or Consultant is perfectly normal.
DLA is not awarded because of your daughter's diagnosis, but due to the extra care she needs because if it, compared to a child the same age without the disability.
Often the DWP will write to a school for a factual report, and if your daughter was a little older, that may have been the case.
Hopefully your GP will have a good idea of your daughter's needs,

    Good luck

Nothing unusual in this, what i would suggest is a visit asap to the Gp make sure he/she is upto date on your daughters care/mobility issues.

Absolutely true. Our GP never sees my youngest as he is healthy and sees his paediatrician for his special needs stuff,I therefore put the specialists contact number on the form plus his senco as the GP wouldn't have had a very good handle on his current care needs. The spcialist was excellent however.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

Hi Rachel. We only use the GP for prescriptions as we always go to the hospital to see her paediatrician. I did the renewal as I did the first application and she has DLA for another 5 years. I put down her paediatrician as he knows more about her condtion that her GP.
