Got my new bill in today (they wanted to increase the DD as ever:rolleyes: , but I phoned with the correct sums and they kept it the same:T ). Why can't they add up?
Was kinda pleased that my heating units, which I use more of than standard units had gone down by 20%, standard only 5%, but pretty !!!!ed off that they had decreased my direct debit discount to 5%, used to be 6%. Also prompt payment discount is going down too and another type, but wasn't really listening when the boy said it:o .
So if you are looking at changing to Hydro make sure you take this into account as I had received no indication that this was happening, takes the edge off the decreases in prices. Give with one hand take with the other  .

This seems to be the current ruse of choice for the energy suppliers at the moment - announce a reduction in gas and electric charges whilst making an unnanounced reduction in discounts on its various tariffs. An industry that needs nuking into orbit by a regulator with teeth? You bet.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
AFAIK the reduction in DD was announced in August 2008 when the prices went up. It was effective immediately for new customers but did not affect current customers till March 2009.0

Aha Rian, I have just had a look at the Important Price Information from August 2008 leaflet and you are correct, thanks.
In the small print on the back page, under "Extra Savings" it does say that if you pay by monthly direct debit you will get a discount of 5% from bills after 1 March 09. Doesn't make it clear that the rate was higher before 1 March 09 though, or that it applies to both new and existing customers.
It's almost like they planned (back in Aug) to give a (small) saving to coincide with this so people might not be too bothered, or is that me being cynical..:rotfl:
