Painting Tool Advice

Hi there,

Me and my better half have recently got the keys to our new (well built in 1935) semi detached house in Sheffield. We spent spent many days/weeks deliberating and deciding on which paint colours to use.

My question is, does something like this

help make painting the walls easier. Saw an advert for this and thought, that makes it look easy. We have rollers and paint brushes which we borrowed of her old man to do the ceiling and coving.

Do you recommend use of such a product? Has anyone used this thing before?

We have around a month to paint living room, dining room and main bedroom, rest of the house we are in no rush to do (basically the furniture we have ordered will arrive in that timespan)

Any and all advice appreciated.

Cheers

It depends on the wall surface, pads do work but my experiance was you spend alot of time loading them with paint than actually putting it on the wall. they would be ok for the cutting in near the edges as it is dificult to do with a brush I found takes alot of accuracy on the final coats with a brush but to cover large areas you cant beat a roller.

Total waste of time, buy yourself a box of roller refills and throw them away instead of messing about cleaning them and still spend less than £16

The first line reads:- This is the paint pad used by Professionals so you know it is going to be the best!

Gotta say that I've never ever seen a proffesional use paint pads. They've been around for years and have never taken off.

Little John got it about right and raymond hit the nail on the head. I bought some pads about 20 years ago and they were useless.
  • Just to back everyone up. Pads are rubbish in my opinion. No make that doubley rubbish! I don't like painting and hubby won't do it, so I have probably tried every gimmick/product out there to save time and energy but nothing works better than a roller and brush for edges & corners.

An editorial in DiY magazine around 20 years ago said something along the lines of "If pads had been invented before brushes, brushes would never have been invented"
    He was wrong.
    Roller and brushes.
  • Oh dear,

People don't seem keen on paint pads!

If you use them correctly on the correct paint they save hours of work, trust me I have used them many times!

If you use paint pads with emulsion paint especially good quality paint like the Dulux one coat you will save many hours of work and a lot of paint. Rollers are very good but waste lots of paint, a paint pad has virtually no waste at all and covers the area much better than a roller.

Never tried them on gloss paint and never will do but I recently painted the hall stairs and landing in a three storey home with paint pads, for the majority of walls they are superb. Cover the majority of the wall with them and use a brush to cut in the edges.

I always use Dulux quality paints, I guess if you used them with cheap watered down emulsion you would have problems!
