Don't use a sponge whatever you do otherwise you are likely to scratch the paintwork!

If you buy a jetwash then buy one that has a detergent feed/bottle so that you can wet the car first and then cover it in foam to help lift off the dirt.

    No you're not.
  • Thanks all!

Great advice, have my shopping list and will make my first attempt this weekend! Have checked at work and can use their hose to rinse off so that will help, and means I can probably do a cheeky clean at work if needed!

Will attempt a wax this time too, as am v proud of my new car!

I've just washed my car using the 2 bucket method and (one just plain water to rinse) have to say it's the cleanest I've ever got it doing it myself.

I did however use a sponge. A tiny kitchen sponge, since I've nothing else handy.

Oh yes I have and it's why I only use a wash mit now.
Older cars with less environmentally friendly paint seem to be able to resist micro scratching more and I found sponges OK on these.

A slight diversion but did you know that having your boom box up increases corrosion of your car? When you see the next retard driving round with his music up to an ear splitting level, console yourself with this. The air pressure inside the car developed by his pounding woofers, vibrates the car bodywork and opens up micro channels in gaps, sealant and joins, allowing moisture in.
