Hi, i've just logged into my bank account and there is a bank credit for just over a quid from someone called 's ervice user1'. i have never heard of this and i have just rang the bank and they have told me they can't give me any more info than what i can see on my screen! can anyone shed any light on this?
i don't use the account so can't understand why someone would want to pay me £1 ish or who 's ervice user1' is. the bank has said its nothing to do with them, its definately an external payment.

It could be fraud, testing the account to see whether it has funds in it.
or it could be a test thing, so like a petrol pump will charge £1 to test the card, but this will taken back at a later date.
If you have informed the bank that you are not sure what the transaction is then its their fault if it all goes wrong, but keep an eye on available balance0 -
I had a mysterious £5+ paid into an account a long time back and it transpires it was some click-pay thing I had signed up for when the internet was just a baby and it had finally triggered the minimum payout level after possibly 8 years use... somewhere... out there!? Still, all gratefully received thank you very much."Click the pennies. Collect the pounds."0

I had this happen
I was credited with £5 and then it was taken away.
I just assumed it was a mistake till 3 days later my account was cleared out.
Turned out it was cash point fraud and the fraud dept said that they pay money in and take it out to see if the account is live or not.
I wouldnt ignore this, I would pursue this with the bank.

Finally got to the bottom of this after a sleepless night!
Must say, i am a little embarrassed now......
rang bank again to see if i could find out any more, spoke to someone different who was extremely helpful and managed to dig out a reference number for me.
turns out i HAD quoted this account number for a cashback company DOH!!
so thanks for your helps folks and sorry for wasting your time!0 -
But you've not wasted MY time... had I not read your postings I would never have realised that fraudsters actually put money IN your account to try it out!

I had the same (today) but I recognised the amount as being from Topcashback.
They have never been credited under that reterence before, it's usually UKC SYSTEMS LTD0 -

It was a credit, not a debit. So wouldn't prove anything other than that the account details were validBR 08/04/09 | ED 02/10/09| BSC 255
I made it through!Don't ignore a problem. Unlike a bad smell, it won't eventually go away.0
