cant answer your question but I have recently closed my account with them. customer service is quite poor and rather oddly they have some strange practises when it comes to transferring your money. You can only transfer £250 via faster payments and can only make one transfer to the same account on any one day. Was speaking to friends over the weekend and they have had the same experiences and they to have closed their accounts. Seems A&L are light years behind other banks.0

I'm new to this site and have just applied (and been accepted) for the A & L account. Have asked A & L to move DD's from HSBC - 16 in total. I'm getting worried with all the bad publicity A & L seem to be getting. I don't want to end up with unpaid DD's etc. Has anyone had a good experience with moving to A & L?0

I moved over to A&L with no problems - but I didn't use their switching service - I manually transferred all my DD's over - it was easy to do. Just cancelled them all at my old bank after they had just been paid out and then rang up the person the money was to go to and gave them my new bank details. It takes a few days for them to set up a DD (apparently) so as long as you give them a few days it's easy to do.
I have only had to rind their customer services twice (and wasn't overly impressed) but thankfully haven't had to contact them again since as everything has run smoothly.
I pay cash in at the local small post office using my A&L card and the cash is credited same dayworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I'm after the £100 so have to use the switching service to qualify. Might be as well to keep some cash in HSBC just in case?
Perhaps keep an eye open to make sure DD's are paid?0 -
