Connecting a Playstation2 to the internet via a Wireless Laptop

Please can someone help me before I totally lose the plot!!!
I have a laptop that connects to the internet via a wireless adapter and NETGEAR WGT624 Wireless Router.
I can happiy surf the web etc through my laptop.
Rather than connect the playstation straight up to the router (Which is miles away from where I'll be playing on the playstation) I want to connect the Playstation to my laptop (Using the network port on my laptop) and then use the laptop connection to the internet to play my games. (Hope you're all with me so far!!!)
I've bought a cross over network cable that I've plugged one end into the playstation and the other into my laptop. When i do this I get a message saying I have limited or no connectivity.
If i use the auto setup function on the playstation it fails saying it cannot connect.
I've tried following the instruction that come with the disc for the playstation but to no avail. It mentions something about installing and configuring Internet connection Sharing but I haven't got a clue what I'm doing.
Please, Please, Please can someone help!!! I'll buy them a virtual pint if they can help

If I were you - I'd buy a long patch cable and plug the PS2 into your router. I tried it through a wireless laptop myself, got it to work in the end but the performance sin't great.
You can get cheap long cables from ebuyer, just stash it away when you're not using it.Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -
Hi,
What you are looking for is internet connection sharing, type this in google or in microsoft help. The performance will be lower going over wireless though as the other person said.0 -

Thanks but before I do that I want to give this a try, have you got any ideas, (given your experience with this) where I'm going wrong0 -
I do this quite often.
It's a bit fiddly but worth while.
You'll need to get a crossover cable. This looks like a regular ethernet cable but the wires inside are different. Ebay is a good source for a cheap one. Then follow this tutorial and PM if you need help:
