Malawarebytes and HijackThis log file help

Hi there

A couple of weeks ago, you guys gave me some advice on how to speed up my computer. I'm now trying to help my friend with hers as it is extremely slow. I've removed AVG and installed Avira. I also defragmented the disc and did a disc clean up.

Then I downloaded Malawarebytes and did a scan (results posted in next post). And I downloaded HijackThis and did a scan (result posted in the post after that)

Would someone be able to take a look at the results and advise how to proceed?

Also, quite worryingly, I have a red shield in the bottom right hand corner with the Windows Security Centre telling me that there's no antivirus protection installed. What does this mean?

typically bloated IBM/Lenovo install..full of carp you don't really need running. I've just rebuilt ds1's thinkpad...the recovery disk was actually a set of 5 !!! full of all the IBM/Lenovo !!!! !!

Most obvious things are:-
1. Need Service Pack 1 for vista
2. Diskkeeper - is it running backups almost permanently ?? would be better to switch it off and manually run it every so often.
3. Do you have disk defrag set to run on a schedule ?? If so, turn it off..
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
• Thanks GunJack, not sure how to turn diskkeeper off as it's not my computer but will look into it. Also, how do I download SP1, I would have thought that a windows update would recognise that it was missing this but it hasn't updated at all? Is this why it's showing that I don't have any antivirus software installed?

Would someone also be able to look at the results of the HJT log and advise if anything needs to be fixed?

Thanks in advance!

Simply uninstall diskeeper from the control panel

goto COMPUTER, C drive, PROPERTIES, TOOLS, DEFRAG NOW and turn off vistas defrag sheduler too

Use DEFRAGGLER in their place
http://www.filehippo.com/download_defraggler/

FIX these ~

THIS program ~
C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Rescue and Recovery\rrpservice.exe
Is backing up (possibly all the time?)
Personally id remove/stop it running all the time as backing up data constantly will DEFINITELY slow it down

Download CCLEANER (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION' ~ make sure YAHOO TOOLBAR is unticked on installation)
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)

reboot

Download GLARY UTILITIES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD NOW' ~ UNTICK the ASK toolbar on installation)
http://www.download.com/Glary-Utilities/3000-2094_4-10508531.html
Run the ONE CLICK scan

• Rik - thanks, ive done as you suggested except to delete the Rescue and Recovery. As it's not my computer, I'm a bit wary of deleting this. What is it used for? Will it affect the computer if I delete it?

Also, the icon in the bottom right hand corner is still saying that I don't have any antivirus protection. Why is this when I have avira installed?

Thank you for all you help so far!

If your sure that Aviras running fine then I wouldnt worry about the anti virus popup

rescue and recovery is some form of 'backup' utility (uses more space as a sort of 'fallback' should anything go wrong). However ~ thats what SYSTEM RESTORE is for anyways.

If the owner of the computer wants to ~ let them backup whatever they need to disc (Photos for example)
• Thanks Rik

Another question, there's a Windows update that won't install. Its Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706)

Error code 8007054E

Can you help at all? Ive done a search on the internet but I can't find any solutions that I can understand!

Its not something youll even HAVE. So I certainly wouldnt worry about it (probably some computer glitch trying to install it)
• Okay, thanks

Finally, another poster recommended that I install SP1 for Vista. I tried to do this but it failed! (And it took ages!)

Is this essential? Will it ham the computer or slow it down if I don't?

Again, thanks so much for all you help, it's vey much appeciated
