Switching to Halifax Reward account but keeping same a/c number etc?

Options
Hi guys

I currently have the Halifax high interest current account and want to get the Halifax "reward account" (not the "ultimate reward" account), which pays £5 a month if you pay in over £1000.

I wondered if it's possible to just do a switch keeping the same account number, sort code etc so I don't need to bother about direct debits and debit card etc changing.

Has anyone managed to do this or did you need to open a new account entirely??? Thanks!

Yes, they can do it on the phone, and everything will stay the same. They can call you back, so you don't even have to pay for the phone call.

What I've done is open the new Reward current account but kept the "High Interest":rotfl: one as it is. You do achieve a little interest on the original account so it is better for it to be sitting in there for a few days rather than in the non-Interest paying Reward account. You can easily move money on line.

Eventually the older account will be converted to a Reward account in any case.

    Thanks

I wonder if it will let me just do it online if I click apply as "an existing online customer"?

That will open a new account for you.

It only takes about five seconds for them to do it over the phone, it's not hard.

Bad experiences with bank call centres in the past has made me pessimistic (could I expect them to switch me to the £12.50-a-month ultimate reward a/c instead, or get a foreign operator who I can't understand & can't understand me?) Just prefer online as I can see exactly what is being done!! LOL but I will give it a try tomorrow if that's the only way.

I always have very good experiences with Halifax's call centre ... and they are all in the UK. And the working day after you convert it over, it'll show up online as Halifax Reward Current Account, so it'll be obvious to you if they've done something wrong.

You could do it in branch instead.

.... it is the only way, if you wish to convert the existing account?

If you do it online you will do what it promises ..... open a new account. Which does not appear to be your requirement?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
