Try globespan.com or flyzoom.com. Both have flights from Glasgow. Globespan look around £1,600 for five of you.

I second Canadian Affair, I've been with them many times as they are rarely beaten on price.

I don't mean to be rude to the OP, but it seems that they are looking for other people to get prices for them (I'm assuming this, although the post just says they are looking for flights). This strikes me as a bit lazy.

I think it is at that price as you are flying at PEAK season. Boxing day is one of the most expensive times to fly and you are coming back after New Year. I wouldn'y wait much longer to book it, it will only go up I'm afraid :(

I can second the vote for the above, nice clear web site, clear pricing
structure with plenty of flexibility on creating "open jaw" and extended
    duration flights.

Flew Manchester-Vancouver and then Toronto-Birmingham for £268 back in
    May.

Outbound flight with MyTravel Airbus 330 was fine, with reasonable standard
of catering and In Flight entertainment. Seating a little cramped down the
back for my 6 foot frame, but could'nt grumble.

Inbound flight from Toronto was on a "narrow body" Boeing 757 and I
    was'nt really expecting much.

But Thomas Cook Airlines are revelation at least when it comes to seating
on this model of Aircraft. Seat pitch was superior to any most Business class
seats I've experienced, (Ok not that many), but still made a 6 hour flight
    from Toronto very comfortable.

All in all would say Canadian Affair and above airlines more than satisfactory.

I don't quite agree with this.

It depends on the airline but the expensive fares tend to end on Dec 23/24, and cheap[er] fares start Dec 24/25 onwards.

As an example I used https://www.airnet.co.uk for a "Full Fare listing" of Glasgow -> Vancouver

    Dec 23 - Jan 4 = £741 (BA) £822 (KLM)
    Dec 24 - Jan 4 = £547 (KLM - must travel Dec 24 - 31 March)

As for when to purchase, do it when you find a price that's suitable.

    Check out flights from Edinburgh!!!!

    Dec 24 - Feb 28 £362 RTN with KLM!!!

Doesn't show as avail on-line for your dates, check https://www.klm.com to see when the cheapest flights are.
