Newcastle Building Soc - 5 for Life?

Just received a letter from Newcastle with their new product (5% return per year for life) but cannot find any key facts to judge whether it is any good. Has anybody else received these details, and have any opinion as to the quality of the offer?
I am a bit suspicious because of the way it is presented, and the timing (i.e. in a time of low interest rates, 5% looks attractive - but this 5% has been around for ages as "return of capital" in any investment bond surely?).
