My OH is trying to sell his subaru as he is now unemployed, it is a 2 litre turbo. with 02 plate and 56k on the clock. We were asking £5,500 for it but have only had one offer at the stupid price of £3,500. Its in good condition so do you think we are asking too much or do you think the bloke was trying it on???

£3500 for a 7 year old Subaru sounds fair to me, most of them have had the life thrashed out of them.0

I traded in my trusty old 1999 Legacy GX for £900 and he sold it on, on ebay, for under £700. There's no money in a Subaru during cost cutting times, no matter how well they've been looked after as they're not cheap to run.
I'd say £3500 is a bit low but not too far off for a quick sale.Russ.0 -
I had an interest in a Legacy for a short while where people were celebrating their great fuel saving acheivments when fuel prioces were sky high, congratulating people who made better than 30mpg
Cars this thirsty are not exactly in vogue these days, £3500 is probably more than you get trade in price if any car dealer would take it off you at all.0 -
The value of anything you own is only what other people are prepared to pay for it.
It doesn't matter what it says in a book or on a web site or a magazine, if you have properly advertised the car at £5,500 and not had a bid of around that, then it's value is not £5,500. If you've only had a bid at £3,500, then that's its value.0 -
Not a direct comparison, but highlights that prices for Subaru, as with other manufacturers of performance vehicles, are on the downward slide. I bought my Subaru Impreza recently for £650. It's not the same model as yours as it is the 1.6 estate. The vehicle was registered in 2001 and had 53k on the clock; however, it did have some minor body damage. Use it daily and returns around 38mpg. Wouldn't have gone for a bigger engine as the current fuel consumption figures are just about acceptable and would have thought that the price you've been offered is not far short of the mark.0
