Are you moving within the same exchange area?0 -
how far are you moving?
If you are moving to a property that is covered by a different telephone exchange, then I don’t think you can take your number with you
If you are staying within the same telephone exchange then it should not be a problem to keep your number0 -
Even then you used to be able to keep the number - if you were willing to pay for it.natjay wrote:If you are moving to a property that is covered by a different telephone exchange, then I don’t think you can take your number with you
IIRC, it was called an 'out of area exchange line' of 'out of area line'.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I believe that service was only available to Business Customers, and its no longer available to new ones.

Oh that brings back memories. AC15 signalling, £1000+ connection charges (and we paid 'em) ........Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Thanks everyone..
Well I am moving from NW7 to NW9 postcode.. its like 5 mins away from my old house..
Its hopefully solved now..
I contacted BT again and spoke to someone else and he said he would connect it to my new house in an hour. so I hope they will.. but the first lady I spoke to.. she said its not possible at all but you can pay £30 per month so we put a message on ur line so people can get ur new number!
Thanks for all your replies.. Ill keep you up to date...0 -

should be ok if your on the same exchange, if not then you will have no option but to take a new number. BT does provide a caller redirect service, so anyone calling your old number is advised of your new number. its £25 1 month or £30 for 3 months. out of area lines are no longer avil, and if they was it would have cost over £1000, to use tis methodThe views expressed on this website, be they in text, pictures or sound, are my own personal views.
