Have you spoken to them again. Maybe they are not aware how much you can hear in your home.
Unfortunately modern homes and the love of laminate flooring doesn't help.

  • If its three floors most of the doors will have pergo door closers fitted for fire regulations i presume, so doors won't be getting slamed, it'll just be the closers pulling them closed

Is there a period when they are actually quiet/ Maybe if retaliation is the only way forward, that is when you should choose to make a noise.

I had a friend who was staying in rented accommodation on a work assignment where the flat next door was occupied by a couple working at a night club. They came home in the early hours, turned on the lights, played loudmusic etc and stayed up for another two hours making a racket before retiring. He put up with this for a few nights and then waited until he judged they had been in bed for several hours and started his own noisy waking up routine. He did this for a few nights and then they got the message.

Just a thought. Anything with a loud double bass thumping away is very distracting if you are trying to sleep.

Parking in front of your house on a public road, whilst annoying, is within the law. If they are blocking your driveway then you should ask then politely to move their car. The drilling won't go on forever, eventually they will have finished all their DIY.

I can't see why they would talk at any more than normal volume; you haven't said they are shouting to people in other rooms. Nor can I see why they would deliberately slam doors. I suspect you have very poor sound insulation between the two properties - after all you have no previous neighbour to compare it to.

In terms of any noises early in the morning or late at night buy some wax ear plugs - once you soften them to fit you can't feel they are in place and will shut out a lot of the noise. I have chronic insomnia and these have saved my sanity when living with inconsiderate housemates! This is better than getting into a dispute with your neighbours which you will have to declare when selling up.

I had this from downstairs (flat conversion from a house), a few weekends back when his missus went away for the weekend. Loud music, racket and so on Through saturday from lunchtime until 3am on sunday morning, when I walked downstairs to the side of the house, opened the meter cupboard and threw his mains switch.

Instant darkness and comparative silence. Bliss. I also pointed out if he did that again, I would be severely unimpressed and would have a chat with his landlord (who is our OLD landlord - small world.), specifically with regard to him running a business from the property (naughty)

Nice lad, nice couple as a rule, and I have no issue with the occasional bender..but courtesy suggests a cutoff point of say..10.30pm.

I am inclined to agree with the other posters who say that it's likely the property, rather than the neighbours. I had exactly the same problem in the last place I lived in - a Victorian terrace converted into flats - except *I* was the noisy neighbour. The people upstairs were constantly banging on the floor, yelling at my flatmate and I to "Shut the f**k up". No matter how quiet we were, unless we were speaking in hushed, nearly-whispering voices, they seemed to be able to hear us. We were hardly very noisy - both of us worked long hours and were rarely at home, only at about 10pm when we'd get in and have a chat over a cup of tea before bed. Hardly partying 24-7.

Likewise, we could hear *everything* they did. Even if they walked across their (carpeted) floors at a normal pace, it sounded like they were deliberately stomping around.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution. I eventually moved out.

Have you spoken to them? As for parking in front of your property on a public road, as long as they're not blocking your access to a drive, then there is nothing wrong with this.

Maybe they don't realise you're listening to their every move - perhaps you're so quiet they think the walls must be good and thick and don't carry noise.

Try talking before calling in the higher powers (unless you never want to get on with your neighbours).

Maybe we should have a Police presence here. It's obvious that people are in distreess.

Parking for 24 hours about 5 ft from a bend I think is illegal? I park on my driveway and don't block others.

Other neighbour of theirs shouts at them to be quiet regularly.

No fire doors - commented when I bought the place that they didn't have the chains as the property I was renting at time did.

They can't hear anything from the 2 neighbours only if they're quiet someone using stairs.

Others have been here when they've been noisy actually commented on the sound level. Across road have 5 terraced houses and no one complains about the noise levels. One has 6 people living there, 4 kids. Other has family of 4 and large dog.

Not been here 12 months yet, I'm hoping they move before I do and quick at that too! So are their other neighbour!

Did use the sax for about 20 mins last night and will again tonight - any footie on the box tonight or do I try when they're sitting down watching the soaps!

I'm hoping by weekend my squeeky sax playing (yes some high notes) will have gone on their nerves enough for them to ask me to stop and I'll mention them banging doors etc again and until that carries on I won't be buying a mute.

I'm on call I have to be contactable 24 hours per day with my job so can't use earplugs. I actually have to go away for 1 weekend in 4 to relax!

Your neighbours aren't being noisey, your house is just built really poorly.

The fact you can hear someone shouting at them from the other side of their house should tell you that its the house thats the problem You can hear someone shouting indoors two doors away from yours.

You can hear people TALKING and you say that them walking around is clearly audible. Add that to the fact that even them closing a door as caused yours to open and you should realise that there is a problem with your walls.
