T Mob's very small print

My partner took out the one-day-only offer on T Mob for 300 mins and 100 texts (or so we hope; the contract just says texts) for 18 months @ 16.50 pm. However only after careful reading of the very small print - not the terms and conditions - it appears that this is not what it appears to be ie an 18 month pay monthly contract. It's a "self serve" contract, which is undefined and unexplained at the time of order on their website. This means that they charge you the 1 pound for the day it's arriving (ok it's only a pound but..) but also that you do not qualify for free calls to their customer services number, but have to pay either a landline 0845 no or if calling from your mobile, 50p a minute. Now, as anyone who's tried to get hold of them knows, there's usually a 15 minute wait while they play their irritating music over and over, which means that calling them from a mobile means the maximum call rate of 5 pounds per call to customer services applies. Take just 2 calls a month to sort out a billing or phone problem and your 'cheap' 16.50 contract is up to 26.50 (+VAT on the non-inclusive call to them).

Added to that is that they are about the only crowd around to hit you with a 6 quid (sorry 5.99) delivery charge and you wonder what you've signed up to for a full 18 months!

Partner is attempting to get hold of them to ask for free calls to customer services, as they are available on all their other online offers and pay monthly deals

This number will get you through to their customer services free of charge from a landline:

    0808 1219999

The 50p per minute charge is levied on all contracts taken out online it seems. I was as shocked as you about this. However, I got my TMobile contract online via The Link (Dixons) and I have been able to confirm with TMobile that there will be no charge for calling customer services on that particular tariff!
