Is there anything else I can do to protect myself as a seller?

Hi
Just sold high value (£300 ish) item on ebay (buy it now) :j
Seller has paid by paypal :j

but.......

they have zero feedback and a hotmail account. paypal address is unconfirmed

I've sent an email asking them to log on to paypal and confirm address. Item will be sent by courier so will get a seignature on delivery.

But I'm still a bit worried.

Is there anything else I can do to protect myself?

They don't need to have a confirmed address for paypal protection these days I think. Just make sure you log into paypal and the money is definitely there, post to the address given on the paypal payment, and check it says eligible for protection on the paypal payment.

I expect someone more knowledgeable will be along in a mo if I've missed something!

Confirmed does not matter anymore, what you need to look for is theh 'OK to send' on the page when you log into paypal.

If that is there then you need to send it fully tracked and with an online signature available to the address shown. If it doesn't say that then come back and ask again.

Personally I would email the buyer politely and just waste a day or two with polite chit chat, for instance email and explain as item is fully tracked would he like it sent Tuesday for a Wednesday delivery or Wednesday for a Thursday delivery ? See how the response comes back. Also when it is sent add the tracking details into Paypal, then remember you must keep the special delivery bit safe for at least 6 months in case of claim for fraudulent use of card.

Yo can also do some basic research, check out his postal address online and just see what else he has been bidding on.

The risk also depends on the item, if it's a mobi or laptop I'd be worried.

I am also assuming this is UK, but realise I shouldn't make any assumptions!

If this is an overseas buyer come back and ask, also if it is a mobile or laptop come back and ask as we can explain what details to retain before shipping item.

Hi thanks for all your help so far

It's a tent and I WAS working on the assumption that people who camp are by definition nice people but then I thought maybe I was being naive. It's going to a uk address.

I would think a tent will be heavy, how are you intending to post it bearing in mind that a signature online on delivery must be available.

Fair to assume that the scammers won't be so interested then ;)

Certainly not one of the usual areas of interest, although we've had some threads in the past year or so with caravan scams!

    Thanks agin

to be honest, it wasn't particulalrly scammers that I was thinking of (altho it would seem that that's one thing I should be safe from. I was thinking more of the unscrupulous buyer. You hear horror stories! Claiming that they haven't received it, claiming it was broken. I'm sellin on behalf of a fmaily member so will be poassing the money straoght to them but I would hate to have to ask for it back a month down the line because paypal had taken the money back.

I usually only sell small value items for this very reason.
