I just had a look at their website, and I can see why the OP would think it looks quite professional............until of course you get to the part where they ask for the £30 joining fee...............and this part in the FAQs....

How can I pay the fee to you?
You may send us the fee by means of cash (we recommend sending it via registered post in case of loss), cheque or Postal Order (available from the post office).
We do not currently accept payments by Debit/Credit cards, nor do we accept payment via bank transfer.

I wouldn't trust any supposedly legitimate company who asks you to send cash through the post (no matter if they advise you to send it registered!) and who doesn't accept debit/credit cards or online banking payments!!!

Scammers make my blood boil!!!!

in this day and age of technology, if its legit, why wouldnt they use windowed envelopes or have the addresses added via sticky label?

    Dear Mr Smith,

I am pleased to offer you a customer services position with us here at Argos/Tesco/Asda/Farmfoods/Next.

In order for you to accept this job offer following your recent interview please call into one of our stores where you can pay a £30 joining fee.

    Regards

    Mr Con Man.

I really doubt its a good way to go!
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

Hi, I've come across a site that supposidly pays you for working from home with a mailshot company. They apparently take workers from all over the UK to type covering letters and also to insert targetted mail into envelopes which are then handwritten for the addresses. They provide all materials and customers' addresses, you don't source anything for yourself. Work is to be completed within 5 days of initial delivery to your home.

I am the first person to have alarm bells ringing on what basically sounds to me stuffing envelopes but there's something about the fairly comprehensive site that sounds genuine, plus phone numbers/contact details/testimonials etc.

Unfortunately they ask for a registration fee of £30, which is immediately refunded on your first week's work, in cash.

My question is this - are there genuine companies out there requiring people to undertake this sort of work? Or am I being silly, clutching at straws? I already own and manage an ironing service in my local area but could always do with extra income, as we all could, and this would be something I could do of an evening. Not sure if I'm allowed to put the website's address in here for people to check it out so will err on the side of caution and omit it lol.

    Emma :)

Dont do it. I called the company as it looked too good to be true. The guy was rude. I asked him if he had work for me to do in my area and he said-'Send your money and form in and we will see'. I said, would I get a refund if he had no work for me, he replied,' you need to just fill the form in and send your money first'. He then put the phone down. DONT TOUCH THIS SCAMMER. There are loads of online reports on his dodgy dealings in many different co names so do not go there.

stay away from something you haven't heard of that aks for registration fees!!

Glad I read this thread as I am considering offering work from homes positions but thinking it might look dodgy :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
And it is months/years/probably decades away so not breaking any MSE rules :D
How can people tell if these offers are genuine then? Is it registration fees?

It's many things together, any kind of fee is always at the top of the list.

Then there's the promise of earnings that are too good to be true, £20 per hour for stuffing envelopes/data entry etc.

The lack of any real information about the job is another, as is high earnings with "no skills required".

Ask yourself this - why would a genuine company outsource mailing when addresses could be easily and cheaply printed in their own office?

It's a bit like a Pyramid scheme & the only way you actually make money is by reaching certain targets that are not humanly possible.

They do supply all the stationary, envelopes etc, but you have to BUY them! The way this works is that you have to recruit other people like yourself to fill the envelopes too. You will be expected to advertise offering homework like the bloke you replied to & you only get paid if you recruit a certain number of people & get them to all send off thier 'Admin fee' like you did, which will be set at a target number of people you can never achieve, so you never earn anything because you can't recruit enough 'suckers', ....and guess who they all phone when they want the money back??

The person you called will be one of the other people who replied to the adverts for home work & has now got to advertise himself to recruit people like you to fill envelopes for him otherwise he wont earn any money. The only person who ever makes any money will be the person everyone sends thier 'Admin fee' to in the first place.
