Is this a scam? Working from home

Hi, I've come across a site that supposidly pays you for working from home with a mailshot company. They apparently take workers from all over the UK to type covering letters and also to insert targetted mail into envelopes which are then handwritten for the addresses. They provide all materials and customers' addresses, you don't source anything for yourself. Work is to be completed within 5 days of initial delivery to your home.
I am the first person to have alarm bells ringing on what basically sounds to me stuffing envelopes but there's something about the fairly comprehensive site that sounds genuine, plus phone numbers/contact details/testimonials etc.
Unfortunately they ask for a registration fee of £30, which is immediately refunded on your first week's work, in cash.
My question is this - are there genuine companies out there requiring people to undertake this sort of work? Or am I being silly, clutching at straws? I already own and manage an ironing service in my local area but could always do with extra income, as we all could, and this would be something I could do of an evening. Not sure if I'm allowed to put the website's address in here for people to check it out so will err on the side of caution and omit it lol.

And the trick is......Your hand writing will NEVER be good enough.
It's one of the oldest cons around, been going for decades. You pay the registration fee, then more money to cover the cost of the materials they send you. But don't worry, you get that money back when you complete your first job, to their satisfaction. Then when you send them your first batch of envelopes they tell you that your hand writing doesn't come up to their standards and you can't get your money back because they can't use your work.0 -
I agree with geordie joe in that my thoughts were the handwriting would never be good enough, despite the further reassurances they give on their site. Perhaps once people look at it then I can accept I didn't "miss out" on a possible extra income!
I've tried to post the link but as I'm a new user it won't let me so the main body of the site is called mailingortyping. Hope that's allowed, my apologies if it's not0 -
stay away from something you haven't heard of that aks for registration fees!!0

Have decided not to touch it, common sense obviously prevails!0

the basic rule of thumb is that if they want money up front, it's a scam.0
