Good idea for a thread
Instead of spending hundred (or even thousands  ) on going away, treat your own area as if a tourist. Find info at your local Tourist Info centre - a lot of attractions and especially walks and parks, will be free. For a week or a fortnight, ban yourself from doing housework beyond what you would do if staying self-catering somewhere and treat it as your family holiday, eating breakfast in the garden, the odd fish n chip supper, etc...
If you are going self-catering, you could do what my parents used to: they would buy a couple of extra tins and packets each weekly shop and store them in a big cardboard box. By the time we went on holiday we had a full week's worth of food in there - just needing a few fresh things once we arrived, like milk, bread and bacon etc.
Great idea, we did this once in my local big city when we wanted to see it through the eyes of a tourist, we assumed no prior knowledge and even bought a guide book for it. We did some of the museums, art galleries and so on that we have never been to before, despite living here the majority of my life. We even splashed out on a hotel.
We also did a weekend break at home once, had nice bubbly baths, with wine, gave each other massage, phoned pizzas etc.0 -
Clothes: I spent this weekend in the wardrobes going through all our clothes so now I know what summer clothes we actually need (=not much!) & what we have that is fine as is or can be altered. Tons of washing and ironing though _pale_
House: pre-summer cleaning, then start working on the list of odd jobs, which is divided into outside & inside.
Decluttering
Garage: this is our Easter project, we have a garage but it seems to have disappeared under a pile of junk. Freecycle & the Tip - brace yourselves!
Garden: more veg to go into the tubs, furniture to clean up & the patio to relay
Hobbies: time to start renovating clothes, then begin making Christmas presents :xmassmile
Me: oh dear, major renovations needed before I can wear my swimsuit:oI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
unfortunately decluttering seems to be a year-round requirement in my house
and as for the major renovation needed before I fit into some of my clothes .....
... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

What a great idea!
My DDs did this on Sunday, they were bored so went to a local rare breed farm and held some lambs! We used to go there often when they were little (now 15 & 17!) and they really enjoyed themselves and brought back lots of leaflets for local attractions they want to visit. Will now plan some local days out and start saving for bus/train fares0 -
I'm fed up with winter. There may be more cold weather to come but in anticipation of better things to come, can we have a "Preparing for Summer" thread?
On my "To Do" list are the following
1. Reassmble my mini plastic greenhouse ready for seedlings
2. Sort out my vegetable seed packets
3. String up my vegetable patch with rows so I know what's going to be planted - and where.
4. Turn on the garden tap stockcock.
5. Reassmble the automatic watering system
6. Wash my pillows, duvet and mattress cover.
7. Ensure all my winter clothes & sweater are washed and put away clean.
8. Rake the lawn free of moss.
and lots more..........0 -
That sounds good. It will be nice to get my summer clothes out again, (Not just yet though)
I packed them away last Autumn. It will be like going on a free shopping trip :j
I've already made a list of the seeds we have, some are here and some are at the allotment, I'm quite sure that the ones that are here need to be there and visa-versaOn the "to do" list.
Counting down the days until March to start sowing seeds, quite handy that February is a short month. :rotfl:0 -
yikes I'm still preparing for Winter :rotfl:
Great idea for a thread.
I'll be back around September time when I've decided what's on my Preparing for Summer to do list........0 -
Hmm
I need to get pots and things for my attempt at growing at least a few bits of fruit and veg.
Sort out all my summer clothes.
Pack away the matress toppers and thick blankets etc.
Get rid of the weeds on the path and drive and have a general tidy up.
Steal some flowers off my mum to plant in the tiny bit of garden I have.
Get some outdoor furniture.
Clean the front door, I don't see the point yet when it's still raining every day!
I think that's about all I have to doCredit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011
