sending china in post

I don't usually sell china or breakables but have decided to give it a try after buying some bits and pieces at auction. I seem to recall that standard post and recorded do not cover china but can't seem to find it on the Royal mail site. Am I imagining it and If not, do other china sellers use special delivery for all items however priced?

I imagine that all of my items will finish at less than £30, so would normally use standard post, but just wanted to make sure.

Sorry, so many questions :money:

  • Soo - china and glass can't be covered for damage just loss so you just have to bubble them up well and box them with the corners stuffed till it's a solid box with no weak spots. Then imagine dropping it on a hard floor. if you think that it's going to be OK then you're done. Fragile tape makes the customer feel better but I don't know if the gorillas take any notice.

edit - large bubbled bubblewrap (viking) is the quickest way to get a couple of inches of cushion around the china

Thanks AT, I'll send them standard mail then as usual and make sure I pick up plenty of bubble wrap when I'm next in Tesco.

Maybe they take that as a challenge :rotfl:

I agree - the concept of being willing to drop packets onto a concrete floor is an excellent way of packing adequately. I would also pack them in two boxes. Jammed in as suggested above and then put in an outer box with loose fill in between. I understand that there is no way of insuring for breakage with the PO (or most carriers) but that they are covered for complete loss in the usual way if they fail to arrive at all.

Being a frugal soul, I use the contents of my cross-cut shredder to pack around fragile items - I put the shreds into polythene bags and then squish them to the shape that I want. Cheaper than bubble wrap and it saves filling my re-cycling bin with all that shredded paper. ;)

My bubble wrap is free, but I like the idea of paper shreddings. I think I'll use a mix of both to make absolutely certain.

Actually of course I am rather jumping the gun as not only have I not sold any yet, I haven't even listed them. I just like to be ready! :rotfl:

Citylink are the only courier that offered me cover for breakages in the post, they quoted £5.15 for a parcel upto 5kg's. But this is citylink, might be best to do as above, I have yet to send a parcel with them.
